Creating Innovative and Sustainable Mediation Agreements

ELDER CARE MEDIATION

PURPOSE

Elder Care Mediation involves diverse family members with differing perspectives and interests and has become increasingly complicated.  There may be hidden emotional issues that are hard for all of the participants to know, ascertain and express.  Additionally, elder care is a sensitive subject, one that often creates strong emotions for the people involved.

Elder Care Mediation allows family members to work together, rather than to be torn apart, minimizing the chance of future family conflict, providing a better plan for the parents and giving everyone involved peace of mind. The issues addressed may include home and assisted living arrangements,  health care decisions, financial management, guardianship, safety, driving, health care decisions, estate planning, and more.

PROCESS

Elder Care Mediation is a private process in which a neutral third party facilitates the discussions between all of  the participants involved to enable them to create a constructive, well thought out plan for elder care. Elder Care issues arise as people transition from independence to dependence and often create conflict between and among parents, adult children, and siblings.

In addition to issues arising between family members, Debra also mediates issues that arise between families and assisted living facilities or skilled nursing facilities over fees and quality of care, including neglect and abuse issues.  Mediation is a constructive and expedient tool to create a viable elder care plan for resolving these conflicts.
